Magical things happen when people get together for a meal. They eat. They talk. They connect. In a time with many opposing points of view, we need real dialogue and respectful spaces to come together as neighbors. This is what the organizers, We Are Louisville, hope to create with The Big Table, on Sunday, Oct. 1 at Iroquois Park from 5-7 p.m.

At what is being hailed as “the world’s largest potluck” guests will be organized into tables of eight, some of whom will be unfamiliar. Each adult should bring a dish to share to feed at least eight people. Volunteer table hosts will help facilitate conversation among the groups. There will be no central stage or entertainment schedule. The only goal is to engage with each other, and leave as friends rather than strangers.

The previous largest potluck was attended by 1,855 participants and was organized by Foodaholics in Ahmedabad (India), on June 12, 2016. Louisville hopes to top that with at least 2,000 attendees.
